Nokia has gained 6% share of the market in India. This is the data from a report sent by International Data Corporation or as we know them as the IDC. Well that is really news worth celebrating for the people at Nokia.
On the other hand, Nokia has lost the position of being number 1 in overall mobile shipments. Nokia has been holding this position from quite a long time. In fact, just go back into the history, say 6 years and try recalling the phone you had or your friend had. It was most probably a Nokia. It had started with the release of Nokia 5310 as far as I can recall. The phone was thin, had flashy red looks and the most appealing factor was the Express Music tag, something that made you feel like your phone was way louder than any other phone your friends had.Later came touch phones with resistive touch, Nokia 5800 and Nokia 5530. They performed really well with these devices doing good in the market. Mainly because, back then, they were the only phones running Symbian (which was easier and simpler way to navigate and communicate with with the device than many other devices except for the iPhone).
Samsung’s market share for Q1 2013 stands at 16% while Nokia is just lagging by one percent at 15%.
Android’s popularity is one of the main reason Samsung could make huge sales. With Windows OS catching up, the figures can go anybody’s way.
